Players can relive the nostalgia and bring home the Championships as Nintendo announced a new take on one of its classic game collections. Following speculations circulating online about a potential release for the Nintendo Switch, the Japanese publisher officially confirmed that Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will be coming to the console this year.
This was confirmed in a brand new trailer released online on 8th May 2024, which showcased all the titles that will be included in this latest edition of the iconic Nintendo World Championships game. Supporting the recently released trailer, Nintendo has also provided pre-order information and a confirmed release date for players to start pre-ordering or add it to their Wishlist.
According to the official announcement post, the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is an entirely new gaming release for Nintendo that is based on the aforementioned in-person event. For this latest iteration of the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, players will be challenged to "battle through bite-sized bits of classic blockbusters" that appeal to "old-school and new-school players."
The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is confirmed to be launching for Nintendo Switch consoles on 13th July 2024, with pre-orders available from the Nintendo eShop. The forthcoming release will feature "over 150 speedrun challenges" from 13 iconic NES titles, which we've provided below:

The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will welcome a host of features, settings, and game modes like the single-player Speedrun Mode, allowing players to improve their current times while completing challenges and earning pins. They can also play locally with friends in Party Mode, which supports up to eight players to challenge who can submit the best times and crown a Speedrun King or Queen.
Players with an active Nintendo Switch Online membership can take advantage of the World Championships Mode. This mode allows players to select and play five unique challenges that refresh weekly to record their best times, which can be submitted to earn a place on the global leaderboard.
With pre-orders now available, the game will be available in two editions: the standard digital and the Deluxe Set, which is the game's physical edition. The Deluxe Set includes the base game card and the Gold replica display NES cartridge, celebrating the 1990 World Championships, 13 unique art cards, and five pins.
Lastly, players can relive the nostalgia as NES controllers are exclusively available for purchase to players with a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Players can purchase the NES controllers, which comes in a pack of two wireless controllers, for the Nintendo Switch directly from the Nintendo eShop.
