2023 was an amazing year for horror fans, to say the least. The Resident Evil 4 remake made its way to The Game Awards, going so far as to become a nominee for Game of the Year and receiving other nominations in several other categories. During the Silent Hill Transmission, we learned that we'll not only be getting a Silent Hill 2 remake, but also a myriad of new Silent Hill content, from f, to Townfall, to Ascension - not to mention a movie.
With 2023 behind us, there's just as much for horror fans to look forward to in the coming year, especially with the upcoming release of these extremely exciting titles. Here are the five horror games we're most excited to see in 2024.
5. Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is an upcoming asymmetrical horror title set for release in 2024, with players either taking on the roles of the Killer Klowns themselves, or Crescent Cove citizens attempting to escape them.
It'll be interesting to see if this new title breaks the mold for the genre popularized by Dead by Daylight and Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and introduces new gameplay elements that players are interested in. If so, it might just manage to become a fan-favorite to rival existing popular titles.
4. Dead of Darkness
Dead of Darkness will be Retrofiction Games' first release, but it already looks more than promising: it's a 2D survival horror action-adventure title that brings to mind classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. As players explore in this unique adventure, they'll solve a missing persons case on Velvet Island while coming across monsters, traps, puzzles, and more. Developers note its "cosmic horror influences," drawing from the works of Clive Barker and John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy.
3. Silent Hill: F
Silent Hill F was first announced during Konami's Silent Hill Transmission earlier this year, and not much has been announced about it since. However, as the first mainline game in the series in over 10 years, the upcoming game represents the modern revitalization of Silent Hill. We can only hope that the game's graphics and story are as gorgeous as its teaser trailer, which might just be the Silent Hill franchise's best yet.
2. Bendy: The Cage
The Bendy and the Ink Machine franchise has grown over the years from a small indie game to a truly iconic series in modern horror. Bendy: The Cage is the next installment in that series, bringing back popular player character Henry as players uncover new secrets.
What makes this game stand out from its predecessors is that its developer, TheMeatly, promises it'll have significantly darker themes than the previous Bendy games, and will delve into psychological horror. While there's no official release date for The Cage quite yet, we anticipate it'll release in 2024.
1. Silent Hill 2
Speaking of psychological horror, you'd be hard-pressed to find a horror title out there right now with as much fanfare surrounding it as Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake. The studio is working to revitalize the now 23-year-old classic alongside its original developer, Konami. They promise that it'll be faithful to the original while modernizing the story's graphics, gameplay, and adding in some new content. Fans thankfully shouldn't have to wait too much longer to experience the foggy world of Silent Hill again, since it's expected to release in 2024.
