Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion - Release date, platforms, story

Final Fantasy fans have much to look forward to in the coming months. Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to the critically acclaimed FFVII Remake, will hit shelves next year.

In addition, another game is looming on the horizon: Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion, a remastered version of the massively underrated Crisis Core spin-off that was only released on Sony's handheld, the PSP. 

Crisis Core is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII, bringing beloved SOLDIER Zack Fair to the limelight. With Zack set to play a big part in FFVII Rebirth, Square Enix wants to make sure everyone interested in the franchise's story can experience it in the best way possible.

Crisis Core FFVII Reunion - Release date

According to Square Enix's original announcement, the Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion remaster is scheduled for release "this Winter."

While many fans believed this could entail a Q1/Q2 2023 release, a blog post on Square's site confirmed that the game will be released late in 2022. The remaster will include improved graphics, full voice acting for all dialogue, and even new arrangements for the soundtrack.

Unlike the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is a PlayStation 5 exclusive title, Crisis Core FFVII Reunion will release on all major platforms, as indicated below.

Crisis Core FFVII Reunion - Story

If you're new to Final Fantasy VII, you might be wondering if you need to know anything or have played other games in the chronology to understand Crisis Core. Good news: You don't!

Crisis Core is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII. The game fleshes out Zack Fair, the spin-off protagonist, who plays a somewhat minor role in the original game, but later became a fan favorite over the years. 

At its core (no pun intended), Crisis Core tells the story of Zack Fair, a SOLDIER 2nd Class, and his mission to find the missing Genesis Rhapsodos.
