- Amnesia: Rebirth has been announced by Frictional Games, their own follow-up to The Dark Descent
- A sequel A Machine For Pigs was developed by The Chinese Room, so this marks Frictional's return to the franchise
- The new title is a new story with new characters in the same universe
Frictional Games has announced a follow-up to its classic horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which looks just as horrifying as the original.
Amnesia: Rebirth was unveiled in a new trailer, 10 years since the original's release which became a viral hit through Twitch and YouTube streams.
An official synopsis for the sequel reads: “Amnesia: Rebirth is a new descent into darkness from the creators of the iconic Amnesia series.
“A harrowing journey through desolation and despair, exploring the limits of human resilience.”
Rebirth follows new character Tasi Trianon who is trying to escape a creature stalking her through the Algerian desert. The creature in question is described as feeding off your terror, as you retrace Tasi's journey and pull together her shattered past.
In a post on the PlayStation blog, Rebirth is described as not reinventing what was successful about The Dark Descent, but it will offer “something less predictable” which will “make you think about the things that really scare you”.

Following The Dark Descent's release in 2010, a sequel was developed by The Chinese Room called Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs. Frictional went onto develop 2015 horror title Soma, which was set outside the Amnesia universe.
Amnesia: Rebirth will be released autumn 2020 on PC and PlayStation 4.
