It has been more than ten years since developers Creative Assembly and Feral Interactive released the survival horror game Alien: Isolation, a game set 15 years after the 1979 film Alien. Following in the terrifying footsteps of engineer Amanda Ripley, the game received critical praise and garnered some negative reactions post-release but developed a mass cult following, even becoming a source of inspiration for filmmaker Fede Álvarez during the production of Alien: Romulus.
Creative Assembly's creative director, Al Hope, issued a statement via the game's social media account thanking the player base for their dedicated support in which he announced that a sequel to Isolation is in development. The news was made to commemorate the game's tenth anniversary on 7th October 2024; surprisingly, the game is currently discounted for PC via GOG.com and Steam for a limited time.
On behalf of the team at Creative Assembly, Hope thanked all the players who've supported and championed the game in the years following its release, which allowed it to gain its following. Citing that the team had "one guiding principle" being to "create a truly authentic experience" that darts its roots in the film franchise while creating a new story experience that lives up to the "masterpiece."
"On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear. Today, I'm delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development," Hope wrote in the 10th anniversary post on social media.
The post concluded that they anticipate sharing as many details into the game's development once they're ready, which the news delighted many players online who learned of a sequel to Alien: Isolation. Don't expect to know of any release details as the sequel is in early development, but it's possible we may start hearing some initial details sometime in 2025, but we're ready to be terrified once again!
