V Rising: Where To Find Foulrot The Soultaker - Location
Foulrot the Soultaker lies in the Ancient Village of the Cursed Forest, nestled within the northern part of Vardoran. To reach this location, venture towards the far eastern part of the biome and follow the road on the right upon entering. Upon arrival, it is crucial to activate the Vampire Waygate for ease of travel. However, exercise caution, for this region is rather treacherous - the path is infested with werewolves and other unfriendly mutated creatures.
Furthermore, be aware of Nightmarshal Styx the Sunderer, a formidable Level 79 boss who patrols the road adjacent to the Ancient Village. So exercise utmost vigilance when engaging in combat against Foulrot the Soultaker in V Rising. Clearing out the inhabitants of the Ancient Village before the boss fight is also highly recommended, as their interference can significantly escalate the difficulty.
V Rising: How To Beat Foulrot The Soultaker
Foulrot the Soultaker is a Level 64 Blood Carrier in V Rising. As such, we strongly advise having a Gear Score of Level 57+ to ensure a fighting chance against this menacing adversary. Additionally, the area surrounding Foulrot, including powerful Banshees and other enemies, reinforces the need for matching strength and resilience. Finally, regarding your choice of weapon, you could go in with any of the following melee weapons: Reaper, Sword, and Mace.
Blood Type
Using the right Blood Type is vital to enhance your chances of success. Prioritize Creature Blood with 50% or higher Blood Quality. The higher the percentage, the more advantageous it becomes, particularly during the latter stages of the battle, where increased movement speed proves invaluable. Alternatively, you might also consider using Brute Blood (60%+). This is because Foulrot summons reinforcements during the fight, and leeching life from these minions can significantly aid your survival.
Travel Abilities
There are two main choices for movement spells: Veil of Bones and Veil of Blood. Veil of Bones is incredibly important in this fight. When you use your movement ability, your next attack will launch a projectile dealing 75% magic damage inflicting the Condemn debuff on Foulrot. This will increase any of the enemy's incoming damage taken by 15% for 5 seconds, making you and your allies more powerful against Foulrot the Soultaker.
This is especially important because Foulrot the Soultaker's attacks and counters will inflict the Weaken debuff on you. This will reduce your damage output by 15% for 5 seconds. In this regard, Veil of Bones shines because it essentially negates the Weaken debuff that Foulrot inflicts with his attacks. Veil of Blood is the second best choice because Foulrot the Soultaker will summon Banshees to his aid later in the battle. Therefore, you can use the Banshees to reclaim some of the HP lost during the fight with Leech.
Offensive Abilities
To beat Foulrot the Soultaker in V Rising, you will need to equip offensive spells. A great spell to use is Corrupted Skull, as it launches a projectile dealing 80% magic damage and applying the Condemn debuff once again. It also summons a skeleton warrior to fight for you. What makes this spell even better is the fact that it comes with two charges and only has a 7-second cooldown, allowing you to pretty much spam the ability. The second spell to recommend would be Chaos Volley, which has a relatively low cast time, deals solid damage, and inflicts Ignite to burn Foulrot over time.
Note: We failed to mention Defensive Abilities largely because you don't necessarily need them. Foulrot is fairly kiteable, as we will discuss next.
Foulrot's Moveset
Once the fight begins, Foulrot the Soultaker will initiate you with a barrage of melee attacks. Your primary objective is to avoid these strikes whenever possible and seize opportunities to strike back. As you deal damage, Foulrot will use his counter move: Mist Trance. During this phase, he will turn invisible and execute a high-damage attack from behind, targeting you or your allies. To counter this move, it is crucial to reserve your movement ability. When Foulrot employs Mist Trance, swiftly jump behind him and retaliate kindly.
After successfully reducing Foulrot's health to approximately 50%, the fight transitions into phase 2. In this stage, Foulrot will summon Banshees as reinforcements to tip the scales in his favor. Although they are vulnerable to melee attacks, their potential damage should not be underestimated. Quickly take them out, ensuring their numbers do not overwhelm you.
Pro tip: You can also kite these Banshees by simply maneuvering around the area, causing the Banshees to despawn after a short duration. If you are utilizing a Reaper, toss it out to deal damage to Foulrot while evading the Banshees. However, exercise caution and refrain from striking Foulrot when he activates his counter move. Instead, utilize your movement ability to counter his backstab attempts. By maintaining this approach, you will ultimately emerge victorious in your battle against Foulrot the Soultaker in V Rising.
V Rising: Foulrot The Soultaker Rewards
Upon defeating Foulrot the Soultaker, you receive the Mist Trance (Illusion Ability), Spectral Dust (Crafting Recipe), and Banshee (Crafting Recipe).
- Mist Trance: This lets you block melee or projectile attacks for 1.5 seconds. When attacked, you will turn non-material and teleport to your cursor location. The ability pairs well with evasive plays, as it has a damage block coupled with a movement ability, which allows you to make advanced plays in PVP and PVE scenarios.
- Spectral Dust: A key component that otherwise would have to be farmed by killing the Witch or Banshee in the Cursed Forest. This magic dust is required to craft the Phantom Veil (Tier 3 Cloak) and Corrupted Artifact (and more).
- Banshee: This unit yields Grave Dust and a chance to drop Scourgestone and Spectral Dust. It can also be used in base defense as a Banshee trap.
