The much-anticipated and upcoming animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft has received a premiere date. The news was announced in a new trailer from the streaming service Netflix over the weekend, giving audiences yet another look at the upcoming series.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft was ordered in January 2021 before the writers' room wrapped up for the series in May 2021. It was then later announced during Netflix's DROP 01 event, which delivered a first look at the series in an official trailer.
Netflix officially announced that the latest adaptation of the Tomb Raider IP, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, will arrive on Netflix on 10th October 2024. The animated series will star Hayley Atwell as the famed archaeologist Lara Croft, with the supporting cast rounded out with Allen Maldonado as Zip and Earl Baylon as Jonah Maiava, whom he'll be reprising his role from the rebooted game trilogy.
The animated series is set sometime after the events of the aforementioned rebooted game trilogy, with Shadow of the Tomb Raider being the final entry. Lara Croft embarks on a more dangerous adventure alone, cutting off ties and communications with her friends after a mysterious artifact is stolen from Croft Manor.
Not only will this adventure see Lara hunting down the perpetrators across the globe, but according to the press release, "she will be forced to confront her true self and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become." Nevertheless, with a few months until Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft premieres on Netflix, plenty of news and announcements remain to be confirmed for the animated series.
This was noted in the press release, and we can anticipate more casting news ahead in the build-up to Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The Netflix animated show is one of several new projects developer Crystal Dynamics has announced after striking a deal with Amazon Games for a new Tomb Raider title and a forthcoming project for Amazon Prime Video helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
