Fans are waiting for Crystal Dynamics' next Tomb Raider game, a return for Lara Croft’s more fun and confident personality. The company also did great work with Lara’s most recent reboot trilogy, so expectations are high for their next game.
Some of that excitement was withheld when Embracer laid off their employees and shut down various studios. Many were understandably worried about Crystal Dynamics, but it seems that this company was able to survive these cuts.
Christoph Hartmann, the head of Amazon Games, said that Crystal Dynamics’ next Tomb Raider game is largely safe from Embracer’s various decisions. In an interview with IGN (via GamesRadar), Hartmann says no major changes were made to the studio working on Lara Croft’s next adventure.
"People obviously look at what the parent company is doing, but it never impacted on resources, never led to any changes on management for them, so they're fine," Hartmann tells IGN. "I mean, doing a new Tomb Raider, the bar is so high. The longer you go, the expectation goes higher, so it's a huge, huge task, but things are progressing. I mean, there's some really great ideas here."
Aside from her new character design, details on the next Tomb Raider game have been pretty slim. Crystal Dynamics released Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on multiple platforms last February, which was well-received by fans and critics. A new Tomb Raider animated series from Netflix is also coming out this year, with MCU star Hayley Atwell voicing the iconic character.
