After bursting on the scene to critical acclaim in July 2022, Stray has become an undeniable home run for developer BlueTwelve Studio and publisher Annapurna Interactive. Since that arrival, Stray went on to win multiple awards and continues to expand onto other platforms. After a reveal at the latest Nintendo Direct, we've finally learned the Stray Switch release window.
Stray gets Nintendo Switch release window
An exact release date wasn't given, but Stray will be coming to Nintendo Switch in "Holiday 2024." That probably means December, but we could see a mid to late November release. This marks the seventh platform the title will come to, originally hitting PS4, PS5, and Windows in 2022 with an Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and macOS release following in late 2023.
On top of a few dozen other nominations, Stray won Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards. It snagged PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards, Most Innovative Gameplay at The Steam Awards, Best Debut at the Game Developers Choice Awards, and Best Sound Design for an Indie Game at the Game Audio Network Guild Awards. For many, it was one of the best games of 2022, and now even more players will get a chance to dive in.
While Stray feels rooted in a simple concept with you exploring this world and solving puzzles in third-person as a cat with your drone companion B-12, it's the deep storytelling and narrative power of the game that really sent it to the next level. Framed using this unique perspective, you slowly discover the history of a decaying cybercity and what led to the state of this world.
Stray on Nintendo Switch won't have quite the same crystal clear and crisp graphics it got on PS5, but it looks to run perfectly well on Switch from the trailer and doesn't feel visually downgraded. For those who want a new mobile way to play Stray, and anyone who owns a Switch but none of the other platforms the game dropped on, there's less than six months to wait.
