Stardew Valley's 1.6 update added the Dehydrator, a new type of machinery that allows the player to dry out fruits and mushrooms and eat them. Using the Dehydrator is a great way to get your hands on some handmade artisan goods that you can use to your benefit or sell. Here's how to get and use the Dehydrator in Stardew Valley.
How To Get Dehydrator In Stardew Valley
To get the Dehydrator in Stardew Valley early on, you'll have to buy the recipe from Pierre's with Gold and build it using certain resources. You can make as many Dehydrators as you want with this recipe once you get it, and it'll cost you 10,000 Gold. To build a Dehydrator, you'll need:
- 30 Wood
- 2 Clay
- 1 Fire Quartz
If you wait a while, though, you can actually get a Dehydrator completely for free! Once you've earned 25,000 Gold, Demetrius will come to your farm and ask to use your cave. You can choose either a Mushroom Cave, or a Fruit Bat Cave. If you choose the Mushroom Cave, you'll get a free Dehydrator inside of it! You can either use this new piece of machinery in the cave, or you can just take it down using your Pickaxe and put it on your farm somewhere else.
You'll have to wait a while to get the Dehydrator from Demetrius, but most players will probably find it worth it to save the 10,000 Gold. However, it's also worth noting that you can't build more than one Dehydrator once you pick this one up if you don't have the recipe. To build more Dehydrators, you'll still need to follow the typical process of purchasing the recipe and getting all of the necessary resources to build it.
How To Use The Dehydrator
To use the Dehydrator once you've got one, just walk up to it and place either 5 pieces of fruit or mushrooms inside.
Exactly 1 day later, you'll receive the dried version of the item you put inside. Depending on what you put inside the Dehydrator, you'll achieve a different result:
- Dried Mushrooms (From 5 Health Mushrooms)
- Dried Fruit (From 5 of any Fruit, aside from Grapes)
- Raisins (From 5 Grapes)
