Sons of the Forest features a robust building system that allows you to unleash your creativity by building various structures such as cabins, shelves, traps, and more. But did you know you can also craft stairs in Sons of the Forest without needing blueprints? Stairs are an essential element of any structure, and they can be built in many ways depending on how you place your logs. In this guide, we'll show you step-by-step how to build stairs in Sons of the Forest, so you can access different levels of your base or reach those hard-to-reach areas. So, let's get started and build some stairs!
How To Craft Stairs In Sons Of The Forest
Building stairs is quite similar to building a ramp in Sons of the Forest, but the only difference is that it doesn’t necessarily require log placement to be accurate. Instead, it needs to be functional. You’ll need a reliable axe, which for this endeavor, we advise either the Firefighter or Modern Axe and having Kelvin, your island companion, around.
You can send Kelvin to chop down a few trees and trim them to size for use as logs. Once you have your logs, you can begin setting up the foundation for your stairs. Then, take two logs and set the placement to a circle before placing them vertically on the ground. The next two logs should be placed perpendicular to the previously placed logs, with an arrow pointing at an angle downwards to create a ramp frame. As you continue building your stairs, you'll see an indicator with arrows pointing horizontally appearing on-screen for each log you add to the frame.
Right-click on your mouse to change the orientation needed to build stairs, which a jagged indicator will appear, and clicking on this will have your character split the logs in half before setting it down. Continue this method until you’ve built enough stairs you need and you’ve successfully learned how to build stairs.
You can change the stairs' height by cutting down the two vertical logs to get the required size. Additionally, you can skip alternating stairs as they will still be functional, although it’s unclear if you can fall between the stairs due to their placement.
