Building a base is one of the key elements to your survival in Sons of the Forest, and an important aspect to consider is the base location. Some locations are worse than others, and choosing the right one can be the difference between staying safe and fighting for your life.
So in this guide, we'll walk you through the best base locations that you should choose when building your next base in Sons of the Forest. As well as giving you some general tips on choosing your base location anywhere else on the map.
Sons of the Forest Best Base Locations Guide
Various locations in the sons of the forest can make for a good base of operations, as these locations offer the fundamentals of what any good base needs, ie. space, access to water, access to food, etc. But some are naturally better than others, so below, we've listed a few that you should check out and consider making your home base in.
Build a base Near any River in the game
The first location you can choose is more general, but essentially as long as you build your base near a source of running water like a river can give you a massive bonus in the game. Not only does water stop mutants from approaching from that side (they die when they touch it) but the water can be used to transport resources like wood and other items without having you walk up and down.
Animals and mutants will also be more prominent around rivers, so you'll have access to food (animal meat) and resources (killing mutants) almost anywhere you go. Ultimately, this is one of the base fundamentals that any base should have, being near water.
Build a base in a Treehouse in the Forest
The next tip would be a treehouse that's hopefully near a water source and on the edge of the forest to give you a quick exit if you need to explore. A treehouse will give you the advantage of being able to see enemies coming and gives you a great vantage spot to wait out enemies or defend your base.
While it's ideal for fights, it can be tricky when it comes to resource collecting as you'll need to leave the camp each time, and setting up a perimeter can be tricky in the forest, but it's still worth considering if you want to try a new type of base.
Build a base on A Mini Island on the Northwest Side of the Island
Lastly, one of the most recommended locations to build your base is the mini-island located in a lake to the island's northwest. As you arrive, it's covered with plants and trees, and there are a few coffins from which you may pilfer some basic supplies. Clear all of this, and you'll have enough room to construct a very sizable base.
Thanks to it being a small island surrounded by water, you have a built-in defense system, and since it's still near a forest, a river, and other foliage, you won't be missing out on hunting animals and mutants. It's also easy to set up a perimeter since it's an enclosed area, and even when winter comes, and the water freezes over, you'll have an easier time defending the base.
Lastly, you can set up some convenient zip lines to transport resources such as logs to your island and also transport yourself to the mainland to collect resources and explore. So in our opinion, this mini island is one of the ideal bases, but if you want to be located somewhere else, below are some tips on making sure it's a good spot.
Building a base Anywhere on the Map
When building a base anywhere, there are a few things you need to consider. Below is a list breaking down what every base should have. You don't need to tick all of these boxes, but the more you do, the better your base will be.
- Your base should be near a water source.
- Your base should have space around it so you can expand.
- Your base should be near natural resources such as trees and foliage.
- Your base should have a perimeter set up.
- Your base should be above sea level to make fights easier.
