Following the recent reveal of Ubisoft's latest pirate action-adventure game, Skull and Bones, many enthusiastic fans wonder whether it will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
The title was first announced in 2017 and was initially slated for a 2018 release; however, things didn't go smoothly for Ubisoft after the game suffered major delays and multiple changes in its vision and direction.
During their Ubisoft Forward event, the developers reignited fans' excitement by kickstarting pre-orders for Skull and Bones and announcing all the gameplay platforms upon its release.
Will Skull and Bones release on PS4 or Xbox One?
Unfortunately, players on older generation consoles won't be able to play Skull and Bones, as the game won't be released on either PS4 or Xbox One.
Instead, the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows PC, Stadia, and Luna on 8th November 2022. Indeed, this move should not be a surprise as most developers have already transitioned to the current or next-generation consoles, which consume fewer resources, work, and effort.
However, not all is lost. There's a slight possibility that Ubisoft might eventually come up with a way to let older generation console users experience the game. But the chances of that happening is pretty low.
Skull and Bones takes place in the Indian Ocean "during the Golden Age of Piracy at the end of the 17th century." You will be the captain of your ship and will be able to set sail from Africa to the East Indies either solo or with friends.

You will encounter lethal wildlife, enemy merchant, and pirate ships on the way. The game is about naval warfare; you will need to build and upgrade your to ensure your survival.
Additionally, players can build and set sail on at least 12 different ships, "each with varying speed, health, and capacity stats, as well as unique perks for greater adaptability." Finally, there are much more things one would be able to do and experience during their voyages.
And that about does it for whether Skull and Bones will release on PS4 or Xbox One or not.
