Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake was announced over a year ago, and there's been very little official news surrounding the highly-anticipated title. At this point, those looking forward to the remake are searching for any new information they can get. After some devoted fans discovered an incorrect September release date for the game, many felt disappointed.
However, hopes have picked up again after Silent Hill's community noticed something interesting in the game's Best Buy description: a bullet point that reads, "Fan-favorite character, Pyramid Head, makes a return along with a special origin story for fans to play through."
This has left fans wondering whether Silent Hill 2's remake will contain a Pyramid Head origin story, and what that might look like. Here's what we know so far.
Will the Silent Hill 2 Remake Have A Pyramid Head Origin Story?
Pyramid Head is an incredibly mysterious character in Konami's original Silent Hill 2, never revealing his true identity to players - if there is anything under the helmet at all. With that said, it's hard to imagine what a "special origin story" for Pyramid Head would look like. Could players get to take on the role of the Red Pyramid Thing itself, searching for James Sunderland in the fog? Could there be a sort of Pyramid Head side story beyond what we see of him in Silent Hill 2?
While it's easy to speculate about what this "origin story" mentioned in the Silent Hill 2 remake Best Buy description might be, it's possible that there might not be very much new content in the way of a Pyramid Head side story after all.
As PCGamesN's Will Nelson pointed out, Best Buy description's bullet point description for the game may have been a misquote of something Masahiro Itosaid last year when announcing the game.
"Pyramid Head is coming back,” Ito said during the Silent Hill Transmission. “A new journey for those who know the original, and his origin story for those who know that character."
Ito even used the words "origin story" in his description - but he doesn't say anything about a new "playable origin story." It's more likely that he was referring to the story of Silent Hill 2 itself, which explores where Pyramid Head came from and his ties to the eerie town.
Plus, it's unlikely that Bloober Team would add content that veers too far from the original since they've promised fans a sequel that is true to Konami's masterpiece. “Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us ‘missing the point’ while we’re livening up the title," Bloober Team's Chief Marketing Officer wrote. "We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up.”
