Silent Hill is arguably the most beloved horror franchise in the world. Created by Japanese mastermind Keiichiro Toyama in 1999, the Silent Hill anthology now spans several highly acclaimed video games, feature films, and spin-off projects. More recently, publisher Konami unveiled multiple new title expansions, including a remake of the popular 2001 game Silent Hill 2.
According to the 19th October Silent Hill Transmission Livestream, Silent Hill 2 Remake will be developed by the Polish game studio Bloober Team, the same team responsible for the titles The Medium and Blair Witch. While there is no official release date yet in sight, Konami has revealed Silent Hill 2 Remake's rather daunting PC system requirements.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Official PC System Requirements
In short, you will need a pretty powerful gaming rig to play the Silent Hill 2 Remake, with the game demanding 12 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (or equivalent) graphics card at a minimum. That's pretty crazy, even by modern AAA game standards, which certainly warrants us asking what the f*ck Konami is smoking; or, better yet, what we, as fans, could expect. Either way, it's clear that we're in for a real treat!
While it's arguable that Silent Hill 2 Remake's PC system specs are likely linked to the perma-fog (which, at high enough resolution and quality, is easily graphically taxing), the game's adoption of Unreal Engine 5's Nanite virtualized geometry technology is likely the culprit. Oh, and not to mention Lumen, Unreal's dynamic global lighting and reflections system.

According to Mateusz Lenart, Silent Hill 2's Creative Director and Lead Designer, the developers want the game "to make the same impression the original game did 20 years ago." Lenart later admitted that while "combining the old with the new" would not be easy, he believes they were "on the right track." So it seems.
