Xbox announced in February 2024 that four exclusive games will be heading to other platforms, including the action-adventure Sea of Thieves, which will launch on PlayStation 5. The game's developer, Rare, confirmed that a planned Closed Beta for PS5 will start soon, as players can leave the docks to begin their "piratical escapades."

As such, they have outlined what newcomers can anticipate when joining fellow mateys before starting their adventures in-game. We've compiled all the important information regarding the upcoming Closed Beta, including start and end dates, times, how to join, rewards, and more for Sea of Thieves.

Sea Of Thieves Closed Beta: How To Join & Platforms

The much-anticipated release of Rare's action-adventure game Sea of Thieves will chart its course to new adventures outside the Xbox ecosystem this month. The game will launch for PlayStation 5 consoles on 30th April 2024, six years after its PC and Xbox release in March 2018, and the developer announced a Closed Beta is on the horizon.

According to their social media posts on Twitter and Instagram, Rare announced the dates and times for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Closed Beta for Sea of Thieves. Buccaneers looking to begin their seafaring adventures across the high seas can join the Closed Beta between 12th and 15th April 2024 at 2 am PT / 5 am ET / 9 am UTC.

To join the Closed Beta, they must pre-order one of the game's available editions, the Standard, the Deluxe, or the Premium Editions, from the PlayStation Store to gain access during the dates and times listed above. To engage in multiplayer adventures with friends, they need a PS Plus subscription to explore the game's PvP features and modes, like The Reaper's Bones, Faction battles, Athena's Fortune Trading Company, and World Events.

They will need a Microsoft account to sign into the game as it keeps track of their pirate's progression, currency, rewards, adventures, and access to the game's cross-platform features. If they don't have a Microsoft account, they must register for a free account before syncing it to their PlayStation 5 console, but if they have one, they can link it to the console before logging into the game.

If they prefer to set sail across the Sea of Thieves alone, they can access the Safer Seas mode to play the game's story content and most of the in-game content except for the PvP content. While crossplay will not be available during the Closed Beta period, it will featured at launch, when pirates can toggle this setting to join their friends and other players on PlayStation servers before joining millions on Xbox servers.

Sea Of Thieves Closed Beta: Exclusive Rewards

Pirates participating in the Closed Beta can earn various in-game rewards, such as Renown, cosmetics, and currencies, from the Season 11 progression track. As they'll be able to keep these rewards, which are linked to their account, this will carry over to the base game at launch and will be awarded 10 Renown levels towards the Season 12 progression track.

Those who've pre-ordered their copy of Sea of Thieves via the PlayStation Store will also receive console-exclusive rewards to commemorate the start of their high-sea adventures. These rewards include four Ruby Viper weapons and the Scarlet Storm Parakeet, and if they're participating in the Closed Beta, they will unlock the Dauntless Adventurer Sails and Title, which are non-transferable.
