Sea of Thieves has been enjoying its time on the high seas for the last six years on Xbox consoles and PCs; however, a recent social media post seemingly teased what's next for the action-adventure game. The post was uploaded to the game's official Twitter account on Valentine's Day, teasing the game's possible ports to Nintendo and PlayStation consoles following months of reports and rumors of notable Xbox-exclusive games coming to other platforms.
The Sea of Thieves Twitter account posted a Valentine's Day-themed poem on 14th February 2024, which reads as follows: "Rowboats are red, / And sometimes they're blue, / Other times they're green, / Occasionally they can be white..." Multiple responses to this post cite references to numerous reports and rumors that Sea of Thieves may be one of the games going multi-platform, noting the rowboat colors suggest the platforms the game could be ported to.
One Twitter user responded in a poetic fashion, "Switch is Red / PlayStation is Blue / One of these platforms / You are going to," while another user was somewhat discouraged at the idea of Sea of Thieves going multi-platform. Nevertheless, it's generally accepted amongst the comments on this tweet that Nintendo is "red," Xbox is "green," and "blue" is PlayStation; it's unclear which platform could represent "white;" however, one potential theory could be Epic Games Store as Sea of Thieves is already available via Steam.
During the Nate the Hate podcast on YouTube last month, it was discussed that Microsoft is potentially planning on releasing one of the platform's “more acclaimed” exclusive games to other platforms, with Sea of Thieves being referred to. On top of existing reports from The Verge and XboxEra of Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Starfield already rumored to be going multi-platform, these reports could be confirmed or dispelled when Xbox holds its business update this week.
This business update will detail the "vision for the future of Xbox," according to a tweet from Xbox head Phil Spencer, which includes addressing the backlash of recent reports on the state of Xbox exclusivity, but as nothing has been confirmed yet, the business update will occur during the Official Xbox Podcast on 15th February 2024 at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET / 8 pm GMT on Xbox's YouTube channel and supported podcast apps. But for now, Sea of Thieves fans will have to wonder for a bit longer if this tweet holds some merit to the game's future or just nothing more than pirates enjoying their latest sea shanty.
