Resident Evil Village players can enjoy a new virtual reality (VR) mode alongside the new PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2), releasing on 22 February 2023. According to a post on the official Resident Evil Twitter account, the "VR mode will launch as a free DLC for Resident Evil Village and Gold Edition" for the PlayStation 5 console.
This means anybody who owns a legitimate copy of Resident Evil Village for PS5 can experience this new level of immersion across the game's main storyline. Furthermore, the DLC will be available as a separate download immediately upon PSVR2's release, allowing players to "get up close and personal" with the game's twisted world.
In a PlayStation blog post on 14 December 2022, Kanda Tsuyoshi (the games' producer) expanded on the announcement, noting that Resident Evil Village's VR mode will make "full use of the PlayStation VR2," comprising "vivid graphics of the 4K HDR display (2000×2040 per eye) and eye tracking" to produce a "heightened perception of reality."
Tsuyoshi further noted that the device's 3D audio and Sense controllers would add to the game's realism, allowing players to interact with the game world in a new way. This is what they had to say:
3D audio enhances the realism with audio from every angle, and your sense of touch is enhanced via the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. With one controller in each hand, you can feel the vibration, recoil, and resistance as you interact with objects in the world and fire weapons.
Beyond this, the PSVR2's Sense controllers will also "enable intuitive movements," such as raising your arms to guard or aiming a weapon in Resident Evil Village. "Hold two weapons independently, load a clip into your handgun to reload, and wield your knife with slashing or stabbing attacks," Tsuyoshi noted.
It goes without saying that Resident Evil Village's VR mode will provide a new captivating experience for players, allowing them fully immerse themselves into the world of Ethan Winters.
Resident Evil Village or Resident Evil Village Gold Edition is required to play the free VR Mode. The DLC will be available as a separate download starting 22 February 2023.
