All Remnant 2 Difficulty Settings Explained
At launch, Remnant 2 features four difficulty options and a Hardcore mode. These are Survivor, Veteran, Nightmare, and Apocalypse. In contrast, Remnant: From the Ashes featured Normal, Hardcore, Nightmare, and Apocalypse difficulty.
These aren't necessarily world tiers like in other looter-shooters, but more standard difficulty options seen in most modern games. That being said, Gunfire Games has confirmed that Remnant 2 will be a challenging experience even on the lowest difficulty setting.
First up is Survivor difficulty, which Remnant 2's Principal Designer Ben Cureton claims will be the "core experience" for most players. However, as mentioned previously, it won't be forgiving though fans should expect a relatively balanced experience.
Next up is the Veteran difficulty, which should be a great option for players looking for more challenge minus extreme bullet sponginess.
The third and final difficulty option available from the beginning is Nightmare. Players can expect this to be immensely challenging, where strong builds are a necessity to overcome anything and everything.
Finally, after finishing the campaign, players will unlock the Apocalypse difficulty option. According to Cureton, "It's designed for well thought out builds and clean play." Boss encounters will be ferocious, and players will be tested to their fullest. As of this writing, we don't know if the Apocalypse option will be available in New Game, New Game Plus, or both.
Remnant 2 also adds a bonus Hardcore mode, which should be familiar to the players of the first game. In Hardcore mode, dying would reset all progress and lead to the game being over. It's the permadeath mode that's suited only to the most adventurous players. Interestingly, Hardcore difficulty will be available from the get-go, so everyone will have the option to try it.
Can You Change the Difficulty in Remnant 2?
Yes, you can change the difficulty in Remnant 2 though it has its implications. Firstly, you can't just toggle difficulty by going into the menu. Although it's not exactly clear how it works, it could be similar to the way it worked in Remnant: From the Ashes, where players had to interact with the World Stone. What we do know is that changing the game's difficulty in Remnant 2 will reset all game progress. In the first game, players could retain their character upgrades and abilities, and it could work similarly in Remnant 2.
That's all the difficulty options coming to Remnant 2.
