Unown is a bit of an enigma in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. While it features almost no battle prowess whatsoever, players are bending over backward to try and simply see one in the wild so they can add it to their Sinnoh Pokédex. This is required in order to receive the National Dex and begin the real meat of the post-game.
Despite their best efforts, though, players have been unable to find Unown in Sinnoh. Unown is Pokémon #114 in the Pokédex and that spot has been empty for many players. Luckily, players can easily find Unown in one specific location of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Catching Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
In order to catch Unown, you’ll need to travel to Solaceon Town. Once in the Day Care town, you don’t need to go to the northern or southern routes. Instead, you need to go above the Pokémon Center and to the right. There will be some ledges and different paths that you can go down here.
You want to go all the way to the right and go down the last path that you see. There will be three ledges you have to hop over. Once you’ve jumped over the third, you will see a cave entrance to your right, which you want to enter. This is the Solaceon Ruins and it holds many different items.
However, it’s also the home of Unown and its 30 different variants. All you need to do is keep going up and down the stairs of the ruins, collecting the various items from the different rooms, and you’ll eventually run into a wild Unown. You can defeat it or capture it but either way, Unown is now added to your Pokédex. Luckily, you don’t need to find all 30 different variants of the Pokémon.
If you do capture the first 26 variants, though, you can go to the Ruin Maniac inside of the cave on Route 214 and he will open up a new area containing the final Unown forms.
