A common dilemma for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players is trying to add a Fire-type Pokémon to their team if they didn’t choose Chimchar as their starter. Sinnoh is infamous for not having enough Fire-type Pokémon and that rings true in the remakes. However, this only applies to the above-ground area.
If players head down to the Grand Underground, they’ll discover they can catch a flurry of Fire-type Pokémon. From Magmortar to Growlithe, there are plenty of options for players to pick. Although, the best option might be Houndoom, as it has the secondary Dark typing to help take on Lucian in the Elite Four.
Below, players can find out where they can catch Houndoom in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Catching Houndoom in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
In order to catch Houndoom, you simply need to acquire the Explorer’s Kit. This can be done by reaching Eterna City and talking to the Underground Man next to the Pokémon Center. He will give you the kit to go to the Grand Underground.
From here, you need to walk around and head into caves until you reach one named Volcanic Cave. This is the easiest cave to find that can spawn Houndoom. Once you find that specific cave, look around for Houndoom roaming around in the overworld. If it’s not there, then exit the cave and immediately re-enter to reset the spawns. Repeat this process until a Houndoom appears, at which point you can battle and catch it.
If you go into the Grand Underground immediately after getting the Explorer’s Kit, then the Houndoom you find will be around level 20. However, some players might want to start fresh with their Fire-type Pokémon. If you want to acquire Houndor, Houndoom’s pre-evolved form, then you’ll need to catch two Houndooms. One needs to be male and the other female.
With your two Houndooms, you’ll need to reach Solaceon Town and put both of the Pokémon into the Day Care with each other. After some time, the Pokémon will breed and the Day Care man will give you an egg that contains Houndor. You’ll need to hatch the egg by walking around with it.
That’s everything you need to know about catching Houndoom in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
