Ditto has always been a beloved Pokémon thanks to not only its cute design but its insatiable breeding potential! Being able to acquire more copies of your favorite Pokémon thanks to Ditto, has earned this little guy a spot in the Pokémon Hall of Fame. However, one of the most popular kinds of Ditto that trainers want to get their hands on is foreign Dittos.
Foreign Dittos are a rare commodity in Pokémon games for numerous reasons. Unfortunately, getting your hands on a foreign Ditto is easier said than done, especially when you don't have much to offer in the way of a trade. That's where we come in. This article will explain how you can acquire a foreign Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Why Is Foreign Ditto Good In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?
The main reason why people want a foreign Ditto is to increase their shiny odds. In Pokémon Generation IX, there is a 1/4096 chance that a Pokémon will be shiny. However, by using what fans have dubbed the "Masuda Method," you can increase these odds drastically. By breeding with any foreign Pokémon (that being a Pokémon caught in a save file set to a different language than your own), the shiny rate increases to 6/4096 (1/683)!
Needless to say, a foreign Ditto is worth its weight in gold for increasing the shiny odds by so much. Additionally, when placed in a picnic, foreign Dittos will produce eggs more rapidly than Dittos caught on your native save file. It should be noted that you are free to use any foreign Pokémon for breeding with increased shiny odds, but thanks to Ditto's versatility in being able to breed with every Pokémon, it is recommended to use it.
How To Get A Foreign Ditto In Pokémon Scarlet And Violet
There are several ways you can acquire a foreign Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We will cover some of the options you can try to capture your very own foreign Ditto.
Method 1. Trade Codes
By using the foreign Ditto trade code "4448-4448," you can connect with a random person looking to trade their Ditto. If you are lucky, you will connect with someone from a foreign language and be able to exchange your Dittos!
This may take some time as English Dittos do saturate the market at the moment. However, stick with it, and you should hopefully find a foreign Ditto in about thirty minutes.
Method 2. Start A New Save File
When deciding whether a Ditto is considered foreign or not, the game only checks the language you are playing in. This means you can acquire a foreign Ditto via this method:
- Switch to a new user on your Nintendo Switch.
- Start up a new adventure in a foreign language.
- Play through the game until you catch a Ditto.
- Trade that Ditto to a friend (or trade directly to yourself if you have two Nintendo Switches).
- Switch back to your main save file and receive the foreign Ditto from a friend.
Method 3. Online Forums
Using online forums is a great way to acquire not only foreign Dittos, but perfect IV foreign Dittos! You don't have much say as to what kind of Ditto you receive in a random trade using link codes, but you can specify in forums what kind of Ditto you are looking for.
The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Discord have a section dedicated to Ditto-trading. If you want a particularly powerful Ditto, it is recommended to acquire a 5-6IV Ditto in your own language (via Tera Raids) that you can use to trade with someone else's foreign 5-6IV Ditto. Additionally, using trade codes only allows you to exchange Dittos for Dittos. This method allows you to trade legendaries, shinies, and Raid-ready Pokémon for a perfect IV Ditto.
Another great way to acquire a foreign Ditto is via the Game8 Ditto Trading Board. This is a Japanese online forum where users can post anonymously and trade Dittos. The board itself also has tons of helpful translations that you can copy and paste to help explain the type of Ditto you have and the type of Ditto you want in Japanese!
