Team Asobi has unveiled their first look at a new Astro Bot game coming to PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024.

This is, in many ways, the successor to the hugely popular Astro's Playroom platform game which came pre-installed on every PlayStation 5 console. However, given how hugely popular that game proved to be, it's no surprise to see an expanded adventure for this little bot.

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet, Studio Director at Team Asobi, outlined some of the many ways they have worked to "super-size" Astro Bot's space adventure.

"In this brand-new game, you will explore 6 galaxies and over 80 levels in search of Astro’s scattered crew. Hold on tight to your Dual Speeder and dive down to each unique planet, from lush forests, sandy beaches, hot volcanoes to more surprising locations such as a gigantic hourglass or the canopy of a singing tree!"

Team Asobi confirmed Astro Boy will "reunite with many friends from the PlayStation universe" once again.

The game also confirmed that Astro will have 15 new abilities, which will "take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers". Again, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Astro's Playroom also acted as something of a tech demo for the new DualSense controller when it launched with the PS5.

However, it seems the studio are also doubling down on the character cameo's across the PlayStation universe.

“The trailer shows only a few but we double down on the cast and hope to delight every PlayStation fan out there," Doucet added. "And who knows, maybe this time, these characters will play an even bigger part in saving the day?”

There's not a whole lot more to say really, It's a bigger and better expansion to that free game that you likely couldn't put down when you first unboxed the PS5. So have a watch of the excellent-looking trailer, down below.
