Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida's recent interview with Kinda Funny Games provided a treasure trove of comments covering his Bloodborne Remaster "theory," the failures of the PS Vita console, and his opinion on PlayStation's live service strategy. Not even a day later, PlayStation's live-service strategy continues to worsen as a new report from Bloomberg revealed that two more live service games were reported canned by Sony.

This report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier revealed that Sony had axed two "unannounced games," according to a company representative. They also provided a statement on behalf of Sony, which the publisher will continue to push forward in their strategy to develop and deliver experiences for both single-player and online multiplayer games.

Sony's live-service strategy woes unravel as two "unannounced games" were reportedly canceled, one being a God of War live service game at Bluepoint Games, known for working on the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Demon's Souls remaster and another at Days Gone developer Bend Studio. This recent cancelation comes “following a recent review” at PlayStation Studios, in which a company representative stated that PlayStation will continue to develop and publish "both online and single-player games."

The company representative continued in their statement to Bloomberg, “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects.” Thus far, PlayStation Studios have struck gold in the live service arena following the global launch of Arrowhead's Helldivers 2, which, despite some recent issues, continues to dominate the multiplayer scene even in the wake of NetEase Games' successes with their superhero team-based PvP shooter, Marvel Rivals.

However, Firewalk Studios' Concord was the complete opposite of Helldivers 2, which only lasted two weeks before the game was pulled, and the studio shuttered in October 2024. It's unclear if the recent cancelations will result in job losses at these studios; however, a memo forwarded to Bloomberg reports that they'll be working alongside these aforementioned studios to determine the next course of action “and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is minimal business impact.”
