Overwatch 2 - Release date, platforms, price, and characters

The Xbox and Bethesda Showcase was jampacked with announcements, including the appearance of Blizzard Entertainment titles, the latest developer to be acquired by Microsoft.

Among those titles was Overwatch 2, the polemic albeit long-awaited sequel, confirmed to release in Early Access in October this year. Additionally, Blizzard confirmed they would be pivoting to a free-to-play format, with extra perks for players that own a copy of the first game. 

Overwatch 2 will also receive a new character, Junkerqueen, an unhinged Mad Max-inspired warrior that will seemingly base her kit on melee weapons. Here's everything about Overwatch 2, including when it releases, price, platforms, and more.

Overwatch 2 - Release Date and Price

Overwatch 2 will release on Early Access as a free-to-play title on 4th October 2022, with the PvP portion of the FPS launching ahead of the PvE component. Unfortunately, the Xbox Showcase didn't provide detailed information regarding the PvE component.

Instead, Blizzard confirmed that they would share more news in the upcoming Overwatch 2 reveal event on 16th June at 10:00 am PDT (5:00 pm GMT). We will endeavor to update this article once more information becomes available.

Overwatch 2 - Gameplay Platforms and Crossplay

Overwatch 2 will launch on all major gameplay platforms, including Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, and Nintendo Switch.

Furthermore, players who own a copy of the first game can redeem the Overwatch Founder's Pack, which will include a special icon and two exclusive skins for General Doomfist and Jester Sombra, and more. 

Blizzard confirmed that Overwatch 2 will feature crossplay and cross-progression across all its platforms at launch. 

Overwatch 2 - Characters List

All characters from the original Overwatch will return to Overwatch 2; however, some have undergone massive playstyle changes. For example, Doomfist has been reworked from a DPS to a Tank hero.

Only two new exclusive Overwatch 2 heroes have been revealed, Sojourn and Junkerqueen. The latter's role is yet to be confirmed.
