Unlike most games where XP and levels are intrinsically linked to your power level, you don't have to worry too much about falling behind in Overwatch 2. Similarly to Overwatch 1, XP is obtained at the end of every match. However, things are a little different. So, if you can't wait to get your hands on the slew of valuable goodies, here's how to get XP quickly and level up optimally in Overwatch 2.
How Does XP & Leveling Up Work In Overwatch 2?
In the original Overwatch, XP would go toward your overall player level. This had little to no effect on gameplay and would only grant you cosmetic effects, such as a more elaborate border around your hero. Additionally, your level would be displayed in matches and pregame lobbies, giving hardcore players some well-deserved bragging rights.
In Overwatch 2, XP is much more valuable. XP received after every match goes towards the "Battle Pass." This is a brand-new feature that splits player rewards into multiple sections (with each section requiring approximately 10,000 XP to complete). After reaching each milestone, players can receive many great rewards, such as new skins, sprays, voice lines, and unique heroes like Kiriko.
Best Ways To Level Up & Get XP In Overwatch 2
The best way to level up and get XP fast in Overwatch 2 is to complete your daily and weekly challenges. These missions are relatively straightforward to complete and usually involve doing certain tasks around the map and performing certain actions in-game several times. For example, winning a set number of matches on a specific map or playing as a support "X" times a day.

Every day, players can complete three challenges, each rewarding 3,000 XP. This means it is relatively easy to hit each checkpoint on the Battle Pass daily just by completing these missions. Additionally, weekly missions grant 5,000 XP and come in bundles of 11. By completing every mission, it is possible to obtain a total of 118,000 XP weekly just by playing the game!
More Ways To Level Up & Get XP Quickly In Overwatch 2
While the daily and weekly missions are by far the fastest way to level up in Overwatch 2, there are some alternative methods for those looking to min-max their account to the highest degree.
Seasonal missions are another reward that players can constantly be working towards in-game. However, the time spent trying to optimize this would likely be better spent completing the daily and weekly missions.
It is also possible to purchase XP boosts which will grant additional XP after completing a match. In theory, it is possible to continuously play Overwatch 2 and acquire bonus XP through this method, but it isn't very sustainable in the long term after you get too burnt out.
It is also possible to periodically receive a reward for playing a lesser-played role. For example, if there is a current shortage of Tanks, the game may offer an XP reward to players for filling the gap.
Is Overwatch 2's Premium Battle Pass Worth It?
Overwatch 2's Premium Battle Pass is not for everyone. However, if you are willing to shell out a little money to acquire rewards more quickly, you may consider picking it up.
Regarding XP acquisition, the Premium Battle Pass will offer an additional 20% XP bonus for every match played during the entire Overwatch season. Considering it requires 800,000 XP to complete the 80-tiered Battle Pass, this XP bonus can be very tempting.
The Premium Battle Pass will cost Overwatch 2 players 1000 Coins or the equivalent of $9.99. If you are interested in other rewards, the Premium Battle Pass will also instantly grant you the new hero Kiriko, the legendary D.Va skin EDM, and the Cybermari epic weapon charm. It is also possible to purchase 20 tiers instantly for 2200 Overwatch coins.
So whether or not you decide to purchase the Premium Battle Pass will depend entirely on your financial situation and patience. All of the rewards available in the Premium Battle Pass (aside from the XP bonus) are available in the standard pass just at later junctions.
