Psychosis in The Outlast Trials is a status effect that will make the game much harder for players; when you're struggling with psychosis, you'll experience hallucinations and will be chased by the deadly Skinner Man. It's difficult to see, and the whole environment is warped and distorted. Once you have Psychosis, you're not stuck with it forever, though; you can get rid of it if you know what to do. For those players wanting to shake this awful feeling, here's how you can cure psychosis in The Outlast Trials.
What Causes Sychosis in The Outlast Trials?
Psychosis occurs when a player loses all of their Sanity Bars in The Outlast Trials; players lose Sanity Bars when exposed to various sources of Psychosis Gas. You'll start out with three bars, which will regenerate over time.
Players will be gassed when interacting with a trapped box or when you fail a lock pick - so be careful when interacting with lock picks and boxes! You can also get closer to Psychosis when stepping on Gas Mines, so it's important to avoid them at all costs. Sometimes, Psychosis-causing gas will leak out of windows or doors; when this happens, you might have to inhale a bit of it, but you should be able to get away before Psychosis fully takes over. Sometimes, though, there's nothing you can do, or your Sanity levels will just drop over time.
How Do You Cure Sychosis in The Outlast Trials?
Obviously the easiest way to deal with psychosis is to avoid getting it in the first place. That said, if you do end up getting Psychosis, there are thankfully several ways to get rid of the status effect. First, the easiest way to cure Psychosis in The Outlast Trials is to use an Antidote. This will completely restore your sanity levels. Antidotes can be found in first aid kits, on surfaces like counters or tables, and on dead bodies. So keep your eyes out for them mid-game.
Alternatively, you can just keep running. As we mentioned, the Skinner Man will have his eyes on you if you have Psychosis, and will be trying to kill you. You can outrun him, though, and your Sanity will go up as you gain distance; eventually, you'll have enough Sanity to make him completely disappear into thin air, granting you some safety.
