Capcom has announced 'Onimusha Way of the Sword' at The Game Awards 2024.

The new action-adventure title will be released in 2026 for PlayStation 5Xbox Series consoles, and PC.

A gameplay trailer for the title, seen below, was also revealed showing off plenty of impressive looking gameplay footage - even with the game still years out from release.

Along with the trailer a detailed description of the game was also revealed, which reads:

"The Onimusha series by Capcom reawakens with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand new title coming in 2026. Featuring epic sword fights, a lone samurai wields a sharpened blade and the Oni Gauntlet. Amidst the rush of battle and a deluge of blood, he ponders on his reason for fighting. Set in Kyoto in the early Edo period, the historic city has been transformed by the nefarious Malice with monstrous enemies known as "Genma" stalking the area around. What path will the samurai take?"

The first game in the series, Onimusha: Warlords, was released way back in 2001 and was followed up by several sequels across the early 2000s before going dormant.

Ironically back in 2016, Capcom games producer Yoshinori Ono revealed to me in an interview that discussions relating to a new Onimusha game were happening 'at high levels'

"I've spoken internally with people who made Onimusha with me originally and talked about maybe how interesting it would be to revisit that series," Ono explained.

"But fans should know that we’re not further down that road than the discussion phase."

It only took eight more years, but finally, Capcom is delivering on their promise.
