While New World has only just been released, players will soon be climbing the ranks of their individual trade skills and learning about more advanced materials they can harvest and utilize.
One of these advanced materials that players will eventually stumble upon is called Barbvine. It’s one of the main ingredients in the recipe for making a Waning Crescent Fire Staff, so players might need it sooner than they think. However, Barbvine isn’t your run-of-the-mill material. Instead, it’s a highly advanced piece of wood that players will need to work to acquire themselves. Moreover, it takes some luck and knowledge to actually the places it can be cut down.
Below, players can see exactly where they can find Barbvine and what the prerequisites are to add it to their inventory in New World.
Finding Barbvine in New World
First things first, you need to know the requirements of acquiring Barbvine before you set off to go look for it. Since Barbvine is classified as wood, you need to level up your Logging skill in order to harvest the material.
You’ll need a Logging level of 175 to acquire Barbvine, which is a steep climb. Logging is a mundane skill that comes with simply cutting down trees. However, players can get to the level with enough patience.

Once you’re at level 175, you can then venture out to look for Barbvine. It’s acquired via cutting down Ironwood Trees of all sizes. So tiny, small, medium, large and huge Ironwood Trees will all do.
If you want to find Ironwood Trees, you can go to the following locations, which were found via streamer Fextralife’s Wiki page.
-
Southeast Brightwood
-
Cutlass Keys
-
West and Northeast Ebonscale Reach
-
Southern Edengrove
-
Northwest Everfall
-
Northwest First Light
-
Southern Monarch’s Bluffs
-
Mourningdale
The best place to look for Ironwood Trees is Edengrove, as it has the largest abundance. However, Ebonscale Reach and Brightwood also hold a solid amount of tree spawns.
Once you have some Barbvine, you can craft a number of items in Arcana, Engineering and Woodworking.
