At some point or another, players will need to acquire Fish Oil in New World. Whether it’s for a crafting quest or cooking recipe, Fish Oil is one of the most important ingredients in cooking and players will need it for one reason or another.
Fish Oil is essentially what makes a recipe have some flavour, which adds a new element to the finished product that’s more used in higher-tier cooking. Once players start to need Fish Oil for their recipes or quests, they’ll need to know how to get their hands on it. After all, relying on the Auction Board can only work so often.
Below, players can see exactly how to go about acquiring Fish Oil for their recipes in New World.
Acquiring Fish Oil in New World
As a simple explanation, Fish Oil is simply acquired by catching fish in New World. The Fishing trade skill is something that players will want to level up, as it’s required for many different resources that you’ll need later on in the game. One example is Fish Roe, which is acquired through similar means as Fish Oil.
For Fish Oil, you can fish at either fresh or saltwater sources. For bait, you want to use Woodlouse Bait, as it’s generally regarded as the best choice for mid-tier fishing. Something like Nightcrawler Bait is a bit too underwhelming.
The next steps are going to a watering hole, tossing out your line with some bait and waiting to pull in fish. As you continue to reel in fish, you can salvage them through your inventory. This is done by right-clicking on the fish in the inventory and clicking the salvage option.
If you’re lucky enough, then you’ll receive Fish Oil as an additional resource. This is not guaranteed to happen, though, so you’ll have to be patient.
With Fish Oil, you can mix it with nuts at the kitchen station to create Cooking Oil, opening up even more cooking recipes.
