Studio Ghibli Teases Collab With Lucasfilm On New... What?!

Renowned Japanese film producer Studio Ghibli is teaming up with Lucasfilm, as revealed in a cryptic tweet published on 10 November 2022. Studio Ghibli, creators of such classics as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle, is a household name in not only the anime community but the film industry at large. Similarly, Lucasfilm is responsible for creating some of the most beloved features of all time, including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. 

Hardly anything is known yet about what this mysterious collaboration could be. The only thing shown in the tweet was both companies' logos. Still, that has not stopped fans from speculating about all kinds of possibilities this could mean for the future.

Studio Ghibli Collab With Lucasfilm On Upcoming Project

As mentioned, not much is known yet about what this new collaborative project between Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm could be. That being said, it's safe to make a few predictions. Firstly, the project is almost guaranteed to be animated. Studio Ghibli has yet to release a live-action film and prides itself on gorgeous animated pieces.

Secondly, it is very likely that Star Wars will be the world we get to explore here. Star Wars already have a ton of animated projects both in a traditional 2D style as well as 3D. Star Wars Visions, in particular, was worked on by anime industry veterans, including Kenji Kamiya (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann), Eunyong Choi (Ping Pong The Animation), and more. This anthology series gave each creator the freedom to tell their own story in the Star Wars Universe, and it seems Lucasfilm may be granted the same liberties to Studio Ghibli. 

What Is The Studio Ghibli Collab With Lucasfilm Release Date?

We don't know quite yet what the release date will be for this monumental collaboration. However, Star Wars Visions Season 2 is slated to release sometime during Spring 2023. It is highly likely that Studio Ghibli may have taken up a slot or two in the next anthology series of Star Wars Visions.

Alternatively, fan speculation could be completely wrong, and we may be in for an entirely new feature-length film! While this is certainly hard to imagine, it is not outside the realm of possibility. All we can do is sit and wait.
