American publication PEOPLE deployed all the chaos as they released the first-look images for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Borderlands. The film, which is reportedly slated for a theatrical release on 9th August 2024, also unveiled the official cast poster with the film trailer to be dropped on 21st February 2024.
Based on the action looter shooter series of the same name, developed by Gearbox Software, the film is directed and co-written by Eli Roth and follows the "infamous outlaw" Lilith embarking on a mission to find Atlas' missing daughter on Pandora. Academy Award Winner Cate Blanchett was revealed to be stepping into the role of the famed Vault Hunter, Lilith, as a stunning new photo reveals the actress looking nearly identical to her game counterpart.
The rest of the cast was revealed in subsequent photos and the official trailer teaser, highlighting other key characters in this film who'll be teaming up with Blanchett's Lilith. Ex-soldier Roland (Kevin Hart), demolitionist Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Krieg (Florian Munteanu), archaeologist Dr. Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), and the overenthusiastic robot Claptrap (Jack Black) all appeared throughout the first-look images.
The official Borderlands Twitter account uploaded an official trailer teaser clip online, revealing all the film's central characters in action, confirming the official trailer release on 21st February 2024. It has been a long development for Lionsgate to finally get the Borderlands film moving after it was announced nine years ago with several notable production changes and scripting rewrites.
Production began in April 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic before silhouettes of the cast were released, and production concluded within the same year. Filming reshoots started in early 2023 without its director due to scheduling conflicts; however, outside of this, not much was known about the film before its development hell and casting announcements.
