The Joker might have been an original character in NetherRealm’s Injustice 2, but he’s been given an entirely new move set for his debut in Mortal Kombat 11.
In the first gameplay trailer, Joker uses his cane to smash skulls, shoots bullets using a Batman toy, and even deploys spring-loaded boxing gloves.
He can summon hostages to explode near opponents and use them as weapons in a quick shot where he pulls someone from a wheelchair.
His fatality riffs on Mortal Kombat’s past with Friendships – which were a nonviolent alternative to fatalities introduced in Mortal Kombat 2.
In Joker’s fatality, the friendship is a prank – delivering a birthday cake which explodes in their face before spraying them with a Tommy gun.
The Joker follows a number of DLC characters in Mortal Kombat 11, after Terminator and Sindel released last year. The last remaining fighter will be Spawn released on 27 March.
The Joker is released in Mortal Kombat 11 in early access on 28 January. He’ll be available widely from 4 February.
