Popular anime streaming service Crunchyroll will follow Netflix's efforts as it adds mobile games as part of its subscription memberships. This latest offering, Game Vault, will be included alongside other subscription offerings so eligible subscribers can enjoy a growing library of incredible games.
This was first announced by Crunchyroll and corroborated in a detailed report by Eurogamer, where their gaming offering will be available for select subscription tiers in over 200 countries, which has rolled out for various platforms this month. Their gaming offering already has some popular titles, including Captain Velvet: The Jump+ Dimensions, River City Girls, Inbento, and Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery.
Crunchyroll's Game Vault is included in their Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscription memberships which the Mega Fan is priced at $9.99 / £5.99 a month. The Ultimate Fan subscription is only available for US-based customers and is priced at $14.99 monthly, which Game Vault has rolled out for Andriod devices via the Google Play Store.
Crunchyroll has stated that it will be coming to iOS devices at some point; however, a date has yet to be confirmed. Nevertheless, Crunchyroll's Game Vault has officially launched as of 7th November 2023, and Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscribers can begin exploring their current catalog.
Regarding the frequency of new mobile games being added to the service, they've stated that new games are to be made available regularly, which could mean weekly or monthly. These game offerings will have no ads or microtransactions involved so that they can enjoy gaming without interruptions.
Likewise, with the addition of new games, plenty of adjustments and optimizations will be added "incrementally to ensure stability." What has yet to be determined is whether this offering will be a success for Crunchyroll, as CNBC reports that Netflix's gaming offering has seen less than 1% of its subscribers playing games offered.
