American tech company Apple announced a price hike for multiple Apple products and subscription services. This comes after streaming services Disney+ and Netflix announced an increase in subscription fees, with Apple following suit, which will go into effect for new and existing subscribers.
The price hike will impact both American and international customers as various products and subscription services, like Apple Arcade, by $2,00. This is a massive 40% increase for its gaming subscription service from its previous pricing of $4,99 to $6,99 per month.
Apple Arcade is a gaming subscription offering that was first introduced in September 2019 that gave its customers access to unlimited access to over 200 gaming titles on their Apple devices. With "no interruptions, no in-app purchases," those who subscribe to the service will receive additional functionality like playing their favorite Apple Arcade games online and offline.
The announcement of a price hike comes just days away from the next Apple Event, as other notable products and subscription services will have their prices inflated. According to a report from Bloomberg, the Apple One service, which includes Apple Arcade, will also be impacted by the price hike, increasing from $16.95 to $19.95 for its Basic Plan, $22.95 to $25.95 for the Family Plan and $32.95 to $37.95 for the Premier Plan.
This is the first time, according to CNET, that Apple is increasing its pricing for the Apple Arcade subscription service. The gaming offering offers a free one-month trial, valid for three months following device activation, but once that ends, they have the option to opt in or not for the gaming service.
As such, the pricing for the Apple One service is in international markets like the United Kingdom and several European countries; however, it's unclear which other regions will be impacted. The price hike will happen with immediate effect for new subscribers, while current subscribers will be affected within 30 days of their upcoming renewal.
