Cheaters have been a persistent problem in every online multiplayer game, from Call of Duty to Overwatch 2, and Marvel Rivals, the latest big hit in the industry, is no exception. Fortunately, the developers have taken a strong stance against cheaters. A recent example saw someone receive a staggering 100-year ban, giving players hope that these rule-breakers won’t be ruining the game - at least not consistently.
NetEase Brings the Hammer Down, Issuing 100-Year Bans to Marvel Rivals Cheaters
The developers at NetEase have taken a strong stance on regulating their game, with the recent seasonal update introducing asset hash checking to disable certain mods. Most notably, they’ve implemented a powerful detection tool to combat the use of a keyboard and mouse on consoles, known as "Ximming."
Band for 100 years

Using a keyboard and mouse for shooters provides a significant advantage, particularly in aiming, over those playing on consoles. It seems NetEase is taking this issue as seriously as players do, as one user recently received a ban so lengthy it might outlast the time it takes for humans to establish colonies on Mars.
The ban notification image has been circulating on Reddit, revealing that the ban will not be lifted until December 19th, 2124. This means the player’s account will be locked indefinitely. While they could appeal, it’s unlikely the ban will be overturned, as the reason was “Converter,” meaning they were using a converter to play with a keyboard and mouse on a console.

Though some feel the ban is too harsh, many Reddit users supporting the action agree with the developers’ approach. One user commented, “A game where the devs ACTUALLY ban the cheaters and pretty much permanently ban their accounts?!” Another added, “Good riddance - F*ck cheaters. Never give them an inch. They are the reason PUBG and Warzone were ruined.”
I agree with this approach. With the cheating issues plaguing Black Ops 6 multiplayer and high-rank cheaters ruining the competitive nature of Overwatch 2, it’s refreshing to see Marvel Rivals take a firm stance from the start. Of course, they can’t catch every cheater, and the game might not be entirely cheat-free in the future, but this strong position should certainly discourage others from cheating and make them think twice before entering your lobby.
