The survival game Lethal Company has grown in popularity online recently, already garnering a huge fanbase just a few weeks after its release. Some fans have suggested that the game's developers create a less scary "Arachnophobia mode," which would remove the spiders from the game and replace them with something a little less unsettling.
Player CookieThiefElm suggested the idea for the Arachnophobia mode on the Lethal Company steam forums, mentioning that they came up with the idea to help out a close friend who loves horror but dislikes spiders. "My friend says it's the legs, the skittering, and the head-to-body ratio of it," they explained.
They came up with numerous ideas for what players could replace the spiders with, many of them bringing an element of bright fun into an otherwise scary game.
"Replace them with pictures (Satisfactory), turn them into orbs (Grounded), make them Slime creatures, or maybe even turn them into a Cameo of Shrimp from The Upturned," they wrote.
Others in the forum seconded the idea, with some mentioning that they also experienced arachnophobia and struggled to play the game. Another noted that the developer is open to fans making mods for Lethal Company, and fans should make their own arachnophobia mode for those who want to use it.
If Lethal Company did end up adding this mode, it wouldn't be the first game to add a mode that makes the game more approachable for those with phobias. Some other games, like Hogwarts Legacy, have also introduced an Arachnophobia Mode for those who have a fear of spiders.
