Hogwarts Legacy, the open world action-adventure title that takes place in the Harry Potter universe, has surpassed another sales milestone, according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
In the company's new earning call (as transcribed by VGC), Zaslav reported that Hogwarts Legacy had sold over 15 million copies worldwide and garnered $1 billion in retail sales. It's an enormous number that should increase with the release of the game's PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch version.
Zaslav also claimed that Hogwarts Legacy is now WB's "fifth $1 billion-plus gaming franchise," in addition to Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Lego, and DC games.
With such commercial success, one would think that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works. Interestingly, that idea isn't entirely far-fetched since a recent job listening suggests that Avalanche Software is already hiring for its next project, which very well could be Hogwarts Legacy 2.
In our Hogwarts Legacy review, we called it a game that relies too heavily on nostalgia and in "which you can live your Harry Potter fantasies without dire consequences."
In completely different news, a new Harry Potter TV show is in the works at HBO Max, which will reportedly run for 10 consecutive years.
Hogwarts Legacy is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch version slated to release on 25th July 2023.
