Rockstar Games

Need help to turn on ray tracing in GTA 5 Enhanced Edition? No problem. The PC version of Rockstar Games' now decade old classic received a free update on 4th March 2025, adding ray trace integration to boost reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion, and overall lighting in the game. But how do you enable it?

This guide will explain how to hit the switch on ray tracing in GTA 5 Enhanced Edition on PC.

How To Turn On Ray Tracing In GTA 5 Enhanced Edition

Just follow these easy steps to enable ray tracing in GTA 5 Enhanced Edition on PC. You might have to restart your PC for these settings to take effect after toggling on the ray traced graphic options.

  • Hit the ESC key to open the pause menu (from Story Mode or GTA Online)
  • Go to "Settings" tab
  • Click on the "Graphics" menu option
  • Look for "Ray Tracing"
  • Toggle "Enable Ray Tracing" to "On"

After doing that, you can customize the other ray tracing options for GTA 5 Enhanced on PC to your liking. Some of the options include ray traced shadows, reflections, global illuminations, ambient occlusion, scene BVH quality, frame scaling, and loads more—there are presets to help you out!

If you’re on PC and don’t see these options, you'll need to verify you’re running the Enhanced version—and not the Legacy one. Obviously, you should also check that your GPU supports ray tracing (duh). Rockstar recommends an NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX6600XT or better.

And that's all. As you can see, it's quite easy to turn on ray tracing for GTA 5 Enhanced Edition on PC. Just remember that it might come with a performance trade-off for some er... delicate systems.
