God of War Ragnarok isn't easy, and neither is the 2018 version. We would describe the difficulty as tough but fair. We've got you covered if you are wondering which God of War Ragnarok difficulty level is best.
Update on 7 December 2022: We've updated this article with the latest information about God of War Ragnarok difficulty levels, and which one is best for you.
God of War Ragnarok Difficulty Levels Explained
There are a total of five difficulty levels in God of War Ragnarok. Unlike the 2018 title, enemies won't feel like damage sponges on higher difficulties. Instead, they will deal more damage and become more aggressive/faster.
Check out the five God of War Ragnarok difficulty levels alongside short explanations of each below:
- Give Me Story - The easiest difficulty level available.
- Give Me Grace - Between "Give Me Story" and "Give Me Balance", offering some challenge.
- Give Me Balance - The balanced difficulty should be seen as "normal", the way God of War Ragnarok was meant to be experienced in your first playthrough.
- Give Me No Mercy - Think of this as the "hard mode" where enemies are much more challenging.
- Give Me God of War - The highest difficulty available, with super-aggressive enemies that are fast and deal a whole lot of damage. Only experienced players should attempt this.
For those who are brave enough, it is important to note that "Give Me God of War" will now ramp up in difficulty, starting out a bit less challenging than God of War 2018. You can switch between difficulties at any time, with one exception.
If you start with "Give Me God of War" you can change it to a lower difficulty. However, you won't be able to change it back in a playthrough after lowering the difficulty level. Players can switch between other difficulty levels as much as they want.
