Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit was released early worldwide today after it was accidentally released before its release date in Japan. The interactive puzzle game with unique pixel graphics is developed by Mega Cat Studios, and is now available on Steam for $19.99.
"Welp, Into the Pit got released early over in Japan. Our goof is your gain though," ScottGames explained on X/Twitter, "because now why not release it everywhere? It actually feels very fitting for a FNaF game to release EARLY!"
In the post, series developer ScottGames also vaguely teased another exciting release for tomorrow. The release of Into the Pit comes as part of Five Nights at Freddy's' 10th anniversary celebration.
"We cannot thank the community enough for the incredible support," the Mega Cat team wrote. "We created this game as fans, for fans. From one FNaF to another, it’s a dream come true to see so many fans reciprocate the passion that we’ve poured into creating the game."
An official release date for Into the Pit was never announced prior to today's sudden release. Developers created a related website called "Jeff's Pizza," which teased a 12 June date, but after the website crashed due to overwhelming amounts of traffic, it was shuttered indefinitely. It's unknown what the 12 June date on the page meant.
The early release of Into the Pit isn't the first release blunder in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise. Last year, an asymmetrical FNAF Roblox game known as FNAF: Survival Crew was accidentally released very early in development. According to series creator Scott Cawthon, a developer working on the project misunderstood creator Cawthon's approval of a single skin as confirmation that the project was good to go. FNAF: Survival Crew was taken down in less than two hours.
