Football fans were smiling this weekend as, after the international break, domestic football was back on the menu.
What was served up was of the highest quality too. Liverpool was at their very best with Diogo Jota grabbing two on the way to a 4-0 victory over Southampton. In a bizarre turn of events, Jota was actually playing in a FIFA 22 tournament that very day, telling his would-be opponent he'd have to skip the game to go play for Liverpool.
John McGinn kept Steven Gerrard happy scoring the winning goal to make that two wins out of two for the new Aston Villa manager.
In Italy, Napoli's Dries Mertens proved he still has it at with a double to sink Lazio in another 4-0 win.
And in Spain, Xavi's rebuild of Barcelona continues, the Barcelona defence did their best to gift Villareal a win but luck was on their side, and so was Dutchmen Frenkie de Jong, who scored a goal and kept his team moving with the game ending 3-1 in Barca's favour.
