Fallout 5 Release Date Speculation
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmed release date for Fallout 5, but in this article, you’ll find all (if any) information that the developer shared, as well as some speculation from Ginx on when we could see it launch.
Many fans expected a release of Fallout 5 in the fall of 2022. However, due to the recent pandemic crisis rattling many development studios and the fact that it was expected that The Elder Scrolls 6 would release first, likely, Fallout 5 won't be coming any time soon.
So, our best guess is that Fallout 5 will release within the next two to three years, likely in late 2024 or early 2025. This is further backed by an interview with IGN, where Todd Howard mentioned that he couldn't say or commit to any real due date for Fallout 5.
Fallout 5 will most likely be available only on Xbox One and PC. Microsoft acquired Bethesda recently, and the company has intended to be the sole console capable of delivering Bethesda games. Even Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 have both been put forward as Xbox exclusives.
It should be stated for clarity that we don't have a definitive answer to this question, and we're only speculating. But Bethesda executives like Pete Hines and Todd Howard have stated that they're not sure where the company stands with doing games on PlayStation in the future.
Fallout 5 Confirmed?
During the Bethesda/Xbox showcase, Todd Howard gave us insight into when we can expect the next Fallout title. He stated: "Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production... and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well."
So coming straight from the horse's mouth, Fallout 5 is on the horizon, but as mentioned earlier, an accurate release date is still uncertain. But it gives us some relief to know we can expect another venture into the radioactive world of Fallout one day.
Fallout 5 Possible Locations
The setting and location for Fallout 5 are naturally a mystery right now, but past titles have all featured one of the states in the USA; so we can expect this to be the same again.
Fallout 3 took place in Washington before moving to Boston in Fallout 4. Fallout 76 saw players return to West Virginia. Only Fallout New Vegas and the first two Fallout games appeared to be set on the west coast, while all of the newer games appeared to be on the east coast.
Many fans have speculated that the game could occur in New Orleans, Chicago, or Alaska based on previous side-game and DLC locations. Still, these are all speculations until we receive solid information.
Fallout 5 Gameplay Details
Fallout games have always emphasized single-player gameplay. Todd Howard claims that every game they've made has had a multiplayer mode "just to see what we could do." Having said that, we anticipate Fallout 5 to strongly emphasize the single-player story and activities.
Todd Howard also stated they "want to keep [games] as single-player." And to build on all of this, there are rumors of the game being built on a brand new engine to alleviate the bug issues experienced in previous Fallout games.
A recent job listing, which has now been removed, indicates that the company was looking for an engine programmer to “develop cutting-edge technologies.” This makes sense with the PS5 and Xbox Series X being released and boasting much more power under their hoods than the PS4 and Xbox One.
So, for now, all we can do is speculate on what to expect from Fallout 5, but at the very least, we know that the game is coming and that we can expect to see more leaks, trailers, and information over the next two years.
