Elden Ring was one of the most popular games in 2022. The creators from the FromSoftware team worked together to create a unique experience where the weapons and the combat feel just as good. Despite how well the game did in 2022, FromSoftware is still hard at work updating the game to make it better for the players.
That is why features like Ray Tracing are still being added to the game, even though it was released over a year ago. In the most recent patch for Elden Ring, FromSoftware enabled players to enable Ray Tracing for their game. Here, we are going to tell you how to turn on Ray Tracing for Elden Ring.
How To Activate Ray Tracing In Elden Ring
In the 1.09 patch notes for Elden Ring, FromSoftware goes into detail on exactly how players can use Ray Tracing for the game. There is a small note that needs to be said first. Ray Tracing only works for those who play Elden Ring on a PlayStation 5, an Xbox Series X, or a PC. All other platforms do not support Ray Tracing and are not able to use this new feature.
Setting up Ray Tracing is easy, though. Players need to open the system menu in Elden Ring. From there, go to the graphic settings in the menu. Players should then be able to see the newly added Ray Tracing Quality option that is now in Elden Ring. Use that to turn on Ray Tracing in Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Ray Tracing Performance
From what it looks like, it seems the consoles handle Ray Tracing better than the PC. Consoles do not have a significant drop in FPS when Ray Tracing is on for Elden Ring. Most of the time, the performance issues could be attested to what was already a problem in Elden Ring before Ray Tracing arrived.
For PC, there are reports that as soon as Ray Tracing is turned on, players will lose around 15 FPS from the start. Turning Ray Tracing all the way up will cut the FPS in Elden Ring nearly in half. And that is when players are using the best graphics cards. So PC players might struggle to play Elden Ring with Ray Tracing on.
