It's hard to believe that it's been at least a month since The International 10 Championships concluded and yet, here we are, approaching the start of the next Dota 2 Pro Circuit (DPC) season.
Beyond this, in a recent blog post, Valve announced it would bring the Dota Fantasy league out of the Compendium and into the broader DPC season to "help the Dota community get into the spirit of the global competition," awarding players with DPC Winter 2022 Tour treasures and Shards.
Valve noted that each DPC region will comprise its own DPC Fantasy league, although it will (for the most part) operate similarly as in the past. Here's everything you need to know about the new DPC season, including when the Winter Tour starts, how the new DPC Regional Fantasy league will work, the scoring and all the rewards!
When does the DPC Winter 2022 Tour start?
The DPC Winter 2022 Tour starts on 29th November 2021 and comprises regional leagues culminating in the Dota 2 Winter Major tournament, the first of three majors ahead of The International 2022.
How does the DPC Regional Fantasy league work?
The DPC Regional Fantasy league will operate similarly to the Fantasy league during The International, except scoring is calculated over a week rather than daily (except over the holiday season at the end of the year).
The Basics
Fantasy rosters comprise two Core Player Cards, one Mid Player Card, and two Support Player Cards. Each card will score Fantasy Points based on the player's performance in that period's matches. In addition, silver and Gold Player Cards have special stat bonuses that award extra points.
Player Card Packs
Every player will be granted ten start packs but can earn additional Player Card Packs by winning a Dota game. Otherwise, players can purchase Team Packs in-game, just like during The International.
Regional Fantasy
Each DPC region comprises a single Fantasy league, with Player Cards and lineups unique to the region. Players can choose to participate in multiple regional leagues and earn Fantasy Levels accordingly, although Region rewards will not stack.
For example, if you place in the top 10% of one league but in the top 50% in another league, you will only receive points for your top 10% placement. In addition, the Fantasy Levels will only be awarded once the period is over, with rewards unlocked based on the current overall Fantasy Level.
All DPC Fantasy league scoring and rewards
The Fantasy league scoring system is different compared to previously. All Division I matches during the Winter 2022 Tour will be eligible for Fantasy play.
According to the Dota 2 blog, "The highest scoring two games of a best-of-three count towards a player's score. If a team plays more than one series during a period, only their highest-scoring series will count."
The Chinese Division I will start later in the season because of scheduling conflicts related to COVID-19 quarantining.
Rewards
The rewards for each DPC Fantasy season are indicated below.
- The top 10% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 3 Fantasy Levels.
- The top 25% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 2 Fantasy Levels.
- The top 50% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 1 Fantasy Levels.
- At every third fantasy level, players will receive one DPC Winter 2022 Tour treasure (to be granted later).
- At every other level, players receive 500 shards.
And that's it! Valve also noted that they have a "special conundrum cooking," and we can't wait to see what it is!
