When is the next Dota 2 Diretide? That's a great question. It's safe to say that this Halloween event is a fan favorite, jam-packed with tons of fun and—you guessed it, candy-collecting madness! After all, isn't that what Spooktober is all about?!
This guide will cover everything you need to know about Diretide in Dota 2. In addition to discussing its next potential release date, I'll also be explaining how to play the limited-time event and offer an overview of the rewards you can earn.
When Is The Next Dota 2 Diretide Release Date?
Right now, there's no indication that Diretide will return in 2024. This is because the Crownfall Event has taken center stage in Dota 2 this year. Valve has shifted its emphasis to this new content, which includes a new hero Kez, arriving with Act IV sometime in late October.
For the uninitiated, Diretide was launched as a Halloween celebration on Oct. 30, 2012. Since its debut, the event only appeared three more times in Dota 2, including in 2013 and 2020, due to tremendous public outcry, and again in 2022, headlining the Battle Pass: Part II.
How To Play Diretide In DOTA 2
Diretide is, without a doubt, the most popular special game mode in Dota 2, featuring two teams competing to collect the most Taffy. The Halloween event is similar to a regular game of Dota, except there are only two lanes (bottom and top), and instead of Creep kills offering only Gold, they also drop Taffy. Players must also stay weary of Roshan, who roams the map.
In addition, all heroes in Dota 2 Diretide will drop Taffy upon their death, which could give the opposing team a tremendous advantage if not collected by their allies. After collecting the Taffy, players must deposit them into the Home Bucket, as adding the collection to the bucket has a channeling time.
Players can also collect Taffy from enemy Taffy Wells by destroying them; these structures usually have a guardian protecting them, making eliminating Taffy Wells a little complicated. It's also essential to feed Roshan when he demands Candy. Every two minutes, the monster will target a single player for Candy and eliminate them if not provided on time.
The entire team will also receive the Roshan's Curse, which drains their HP with time. All heroes on each team will share Gold and XP throughout the Diretide match, which is earned by killing Creeps or heroes in-game. They can use the Gold to buy necessary items from the three shops located on the map.
Ultimately, the team that collects the most Taffy at the end of each round (lasting about 6 minutes) will win; three winning rounds are required to win the match. It's worth noting that Dota 2 Diretide events differ somewhat but generally mirror the gameplay of previous iterations.
Candyworks & Treasure Emporium & Rewards
During previous Diretide events, Dota 2 players could trade Candy (a special in-game currency) at the Candyworks & Treasure Emporium for a range of exclusive treasures and cosmetic rewards, including the Diretide Cotton Dandy Courier, Battle Pass Points, Immortal Treasures, Arcanas, and loads more!
Here's a list of Arcana and Persona skins that were available through Diretide in 2022.
Persona and Arcana List in Diretide
- Faceless Void Arcana
- Razor Arcana
- Phantom Assassin Persona
- Primal Beast Prestige Bundle
- Crystal Maiden Persona
- Immortal Treasure I
- Immortal Treasure II
While the above list is certainly not exhaustive, players should be careful when dealing with trading mechanics as it has a history of giving relatively subpar rewards.
And that concludes my guide on Diretide in Dota 2. So, in summary, the limited-time Halloween event probably won't debut in 2024—however, we can definitely expect it to return in the future!
