After spending two years in the grave, the Halloween-themed Diretide event has finally returned to Dota 2. According to Valve, the special game mode will headline the second part of the 2022 Battle Pass. However, unlike its predecessors, this latest installment of Diretide will be premised around an icy cold theme. This guide details everything to know about the popular limited-time game mode, including Diretide's release date, how to play, rewards, and more in Dota 2.
Dota 2 Diretide Event Release Date
Diretide headlines the 2022 Battle Pass: Part II and went live in Dota 2 on 3 November 2022 and is expected to end on 12 January 2023. For the uninitiated, Diretide is a special limited-time game mode in Dota 2. It was first launched as a Halloween celebration on 30 October 2012. Since its initial debut, the Diretide event only appeared two more times in Dota 2, in 2013 and 2020; this was in response to tremendous public outcry.
How To Play Dota 2 Diretide Event 2022
Diretide is arguably the most popular special game mode in Dota 2, featuring two teams competing to collect the most Taffy. The Halloween event is similar to a regular game of Dota, except there are only two lanes (bottom and top), and instead of Creep kills offering only Gold, they also drop Taffy. Players must also stay weary of Roshan, who roams the map.

In addition, all heroes in Dota 2 Diretide will drop Taffy upon their death, which could give the opposing team a tremendous advantage if not collected by their allies. After collecting the Taffy, players must deposit them into the Home Bucket, as adding the collection to the bucket has a channeling time.
Players can also collect Taffy from enemy Taffy Wells by destroying them; these structures usually have a guardian protecting them, making eliminating Taffy Wells a little complicated. It's also essential to feed Roshan when it demands Candy; every two minutes, the monster will target a single player for Candy and eliminate them if not provided on time.
The entire team will also receive the Roshan's Curse, which drains their HP with time. All heroes on each team will share Gold and XP throughout the Diretide match, which is earned by killing Creeps or heroes in-game. They can use the Gold to buy necessary items from the three shops located on the map.
Ultimately, the team that collects the most Taffy at the end of each round (lasting about 6 minutes) will win; three winning rounds are required to win the match. It's worth noting that the intricacies and rules of the 2022 Dota 2 Diretide event are still unclear, but it will likely follow the guidelines from the previous iterations. In the event anything has changed, we will endeavor to update this article accordingly.
Candyworks & Treasure Emporium & Rewards
Candyworks & Treasure Emporium is where players can trade the Candy (a special in-game currency) they receive during the Diretide Halloween event in Dota 2; they can redeem the Candy with Sithil and Quirt to get exclusive treasures filled with cosmetic rewards, including the Diretide Cotton Dandy Courier, 25,000 Battle Points (max), Immortal Treasures, Arcanas, and loads more!
Persona and Arcana List in Diretide 2022

- Razor Arcana
- Phantom Assassin Persona
- Primal Beast Prestige Bundle
- Crystal Maiden Persona

While the above list is certainly not exhaustive, players should be careful while dealing with the trading mechanics as it has a history of giving relatively subpar rewards. That concludes our guide on the Dota 2 Diretide Halloween event in 2022.
