Showcased at DreamHack Winter, in Jönköping, Sweden, The Husqvarna Group have achieved the feat of making Doom playable on one of their robotic lawnmowers. Using the outdoor power equipment's on-unit controls, players can work their way through the retro title's classic levels.
What's more surprising is that players can even play locally in a 1v1 deathmatch, giving players the multiplayer experience they've been craving — if via a slightly unconventional method.
At DreamHack Winter, the company is hosting a LAN tournament, where attendees can face-off against influencers and try their hand at Doom on the lawnmower. Players will attend the qualifiers by taking on a Doom speed run. Those that pass will move onto the Finals on Saturday, taking part in the 1v1 Deathmatch.
But what do competitors stand to gain? Well, first prize is the lawnmower of the hour — the Automower 430X NERA, valued at 41, 900 SEK ( 3182.87 GBP /4002.18 USD) and comes complete with Doom installed. Second prize will walk away with the Automower 320 NERA, and third takes home the Automower Aspire R4.
