Destiny 2's live-service model allows it to host numerous themed events throughout the year. From the Festival of the Lost during Halloween to the Dawning during New Year's, there's always something to celebrate in Destiny 2.
Aside from decorating the Tower, these celebratory events add themed events, bounties, quests, and rewards, giving players incentive to partake in the festivities.
Crimson Days is one such themed event that used to arrive every year around Valentine's Day. In 2021, Bungie decided to discontinue Crimson Days to focus instead on its Seasonal content. However, many fans have been wondering whether the Valentine-themed PvP event would ever return or not.
Crimson Days will likely not return in 2023
Sadly, it seems Bungie has no plans to bring back Crimson Days in the coming year. The event skipped 2022, and with Lightfall expansion set to arrive in February 2023, the chances of it happening are very slim.
The Lightfall expansion is shaping up to be Destiny 2's most ambitious expansion yet, with Bungie introducing not just a new linear explorable space but a whole city.
With Bungie focused entirely on shipping Lightfall, it wouldn't make sense to take that last-moment attention away from polishing its next big expansion for a themed event like this.
Will Crimson Days ever return to Destiny 2?
As of this writing, it's hard to comment on whether everyone's favorite Valentine's event will ever return to Destiny 2. For those unaware, Crimson Days would add a new limited-time Crucible playlist called Crimson Doubles.
The two-player PvP mode didn't feature matchmaking. Instead, players had to form their own fire team to participate. If someone's teammate died, the other player's character would become 'enraged' and activate a buff called 'Broken Heart,' which increased the player's Armor, Agility, Recovery, and Weapon Handing speed until they died or revived their partner.
If Crimson Days were to return, matchmaking in Crimson Doubles would be a must. In 2022, Bungie overhauled its themed events by adding something called an Event Card.
The Event Card allows players to track quests, bounties, rewards, and triumphs seamlessly and is something Crimson Days would need as well to provide a better experience.
Furthermore, a better collection of Valentine-themed items, both earnable and in the Eververse store, would be a must.
That's everything you need to know about Crimson Days 2023 in Destiny 2.
