The dust has settled a bit following the release of Lightfall, Destiny 2's latest expansion. Now that it's been out for some time, we can finally take a look at the revamped mod system and put together what we consider to be top-tier Meta builds.
What makes a build good? It all depends on what you want to do. If you're a PVE fanatic, you might find more value in builds that are better for burst damage and survivability. PVP players might need faster recovery and snappier movement options. Things that don't necessarily hit hard, but certainly hit fast. Let's get down to brass tacks and take a look at the best PVE and PVP builds for Void Hunters in Destiny 2.
Table of Contents
Best Void Hunter PVE Build: Volatile Assassin
This Void Hunter build is about using your abilities as frequently as possible, going invisible and staying invisible, giving your teammates Overshields, and making everything as Volatile as possible. This one relies heavily on the Gyrfalcon's Hauberk Exotic Chest armor, so if you don't have it yet, go hunting in a few Lost Sectors on Chest Day!
Required Gear
- Exotic Armor: Gyrfalcon's Hauberk (Chest)
The difficult-to-pronounce Gyrfalcon's Hauberk chest is the ticket to the show with this build. It grants Volatile Rounds to your Void weapons when you come out of invisibility, bonus damage for using a finisher while you are invis, and also grants a reserve Overshield to you and your allies that can be activated whenever by activating their class abilities. This is a great option for bonus damage, survivability, and creating pretty purple fireworks.
Class Setup
- Super: Mobius Quiver Shadowshot
- Grenade: Vortex Grenades
- Class Ability: Marksman Dodge
- Melee: Snare Bomb
- Jump: Triple Jump
The Jump here is by far the most "up to you" option in this build. We want the Marksman Dodge for the reload and invisibility it grants upon use with our aspects, while the Vortex grenades will go crazy in enemy-dense areas. Experiment a bit if this isn't hitting the mark for you, but remember this setup!
Aspects
- Vanishing Step: this is our ticket to invisibility when dodging!
- Stylish Executioner: Defeating a Weakened, Suppressed, or Volatile target grants Invisibility and Truesight. After performing a Stylish Execution, your next Melee attack while Invisible Weakens targets.
Fragments
- Echo of Starvation Grants Devour when picking up a Void Breach or an Orb of Power
- Echo of Obscurity Finisher final blows grant Invisibility
- Echo of Cessation Finisher final blows create a burst of Void damage that causes nearby combatants to become Volatile. Defeating Volatile targets creates a Void Breach
- Echo of Persistence grants an increased duration to your Void Buffs
Armor Mods
Outside of Stat Mods, you'll want to min/max for ability uptime to further lean into the Grenade, Melee, and Class Ability spam that this build is all about.
- Head Mods: I recommend Ashes to Assets, Void Siphon, and Heavy Ammo Finder for more orbs, more super energy, and heavy ammo
- Arm Mods: I recommend Grenade Kickstart and Bolstering Detonation for more grenade energy and class energy
- Chest Mods: I recommend Emergency Reinforcement and/or whatever damage reduction mods of your choosing. Emergency Reinforcement is crazy strong right now and a requirement for high-end content
- Leg Mods: I recommend Void Weapon Surge, Recuperation, and Orbs of Restoration. These will grant you additional Void weapon damage as well as additional health and ability recharge.
- Cloak Mods: I recommend Time Dilation, Bomber, and Outreach for longer Armor Charge duration and increased cooldowns on grenades and melee charges.
Weapons
- Kinetic Slot: Witherhoard (recommended) While not required, Witherhoard is a kinetic slot grenade launcher that deals DOT (damage over time). It is a great way to apply constant DPS to enemies, keep your grenade uptime going consistently, and is just a fun weapon to use.
- Energy Slot: The choice here is yours, but I do recommend either Funnelweb to help spread Volatile quickly or Doom of Chelchis from King's Fall, which can roll (or be crafted) with both Firefly and Dragonfly, spreading explosions and Volatile Rounds with deadly speed.
- Heavy Slot: Again, this is entirely up to you. Right now, Grenade Launchers and Rockets have become favorable, but Linear Fusion Rifles are still a great option. Regardless of what it is, I recommend a Void Heavy weapon to lean into the synergy of the build.
Stat Distribution
For these, you'll want to focus on as much Resilience and Recovery as possible for survivability. Next would be a minimum of 60 Mobility for your Dodge recharge, but anything higher is obviously better. The rest of the stats are entirely up to you, but Discipline as a sort of mild focus is always a good idea.
Conclusion
This build is going to find a lot of utility in just about every level of gameplay. Take it into a Patrol or lay down the Law of Volatility in a Grandmaster Nightfall, either way, you're going to have fun running around invisible, seeing enemies through walls, and blowing the enemies of the City into the Void.
Best Void Hunter PVP Build: Sneak King
This Void Hunter PVP build is all about Invisibility. We want to be Invis as much as possible, so we're going to focus this build around our good friend, Graviton Forfeit. This will extend our Invis, increase our melee range, and boost our recovery. We're here to be sneaky, so let's build that out!
Required Gear
- Exotic Armor: Graviton Forfeit (Helmet)
Invis is what we want, so Invis is what we'll get with this Exotic Helmet. Make sure to boost your Mobility so that we can get a solid uptime on our Dodge, too!
Class Setup
- Super: Deadfall Shadowshot
- Grenade: Void Spike or Suppression Grenade
- Class Ability: Gambler's Dodge
- Melee: Snare Bomb
- Jump: Up to you, but I love my Triple Jump
Gambler's Dodge is a risky one to get your money's worth out of running it instead of Marksman, but if you can make it happen, getting your melee back will be very useful. If you find yourself having a hard time getting it to proc, switch over to Marksman. No one will judge you for it.
Aspects
- Vanishing Step: this is our ticket to invisibility when dodging!
- Trapper's Ambush: This allows us to perform the Quickfall ability which will Weaken targets and grant that lovely Invisibility to allies. Here in PVP, this is both a great offensive option in combat or a great defensive one before you encounter your foes. This will also allow your Snare Bombs to turn you and your allies invisible, too!
Fragments
These won't have an enormous effect on your gameplay in PVP, but getting the extra leg up over your competition is always helpful, especially if they're running simpler builds. These should help us get and keep Invisibility more often!
- Echo of Starvation Grants Devour when picking up a Void Breach or an Orb of Power
- Echo of Vigilance grants an Overshield when defeating a target with your shields depleted
- Echo of Dilation allows you to move faster and gain enhanced radar resolution while crouched
- Echo of Persistence grants an increased duration to your Void Buffs
Armor Mods
Outside of Stat Mods, you'll want to min/max for weapon steadiness and handling. These are all pretty straightforward and grant bonus weapon stats and ability recovery.
- Head Mods: I recommend Kinetic OR Energy Targeting
- Arm Mods: I recommend Grenade Kickstart and Reloaders of your choice
- Chest Mods: I recommend Unflinching mods of your choice
- Leg Mods: I recommend Absolution, Better Already, Orbs of Restoration
- Cloak Mods: I recommend Reaper, Bomber, Outreach
Weapons
- Kinetic Slot: I recommend a Hand Cannon of your choice here, but you can't go wrong with something like the Ace of Spades or Thorn! This build is extremely mobile and Hand Cannons grant a lot of damage quickly in the ranges that we're going to be in with this build.
- Energy Slot: Shotguns, shotguns, shotguns! My go-to is Mindbender's Ambition, but go crazy. Matador 64, Felwinter's Lie, A Sudden Death, whatever you like, put it here!
- Heavy Slot: Take your pick, but I always recommend a synergistic weapon based on your build. Of course, it doesn't matter quite as much in PVP, but a Void Rocket is going to do well here, or you can rock a Void Heavy Machine Gun.
Stat Distribution
For these, you'll want to focus on Mobility, Resilience, and Recovery for survivability and class ability uptime. Next would either be Strength, to maximize your Melee/Quickfall recharge rate, or Discipline to maximize your Grenade recharge!
Conclusion
This build is almost purpose-built to frustrate your opponents. Try this out next time you're running Trials of Osiris or dipping your toes in the Iron Banner!
These are the best Void Hunter builds for PVE and PVP in Destiny 2. Make sure you save them in your new Loadout slots before you start moving on to your next build!
