Dead Island 2 features six playable characters, each having different strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. While you can't switch characters after beginning the game, you can, however, invite other players to accompany you on your zombie-slaying journey across Hell-A. If you're planning to play Dead Island 2 with a friend, or just another player online, you're in the right place. Here's everything you need to know about co-op in Dead Island 2.
Dead Island 2 Co-Op Explained
In Dead Island 2, you can play co-op with up to two players. Like every other game of this caliber, slashing and smashing your way with a team of three is more fun than a team of one.
However, the co-op in Dead Island 2 isn't accessible from the get-go. It's made available after you leave Emma Jaunt's mansion and start the main quest, "Call the Cavalry."
To play co-op, open the menu bar and select the Social tab. You can invite your online friends to play with you from here. However, to play with strangers, you have to go back to the main menu and select Join Game. For random matchmaking, click on Quick Join.
Is there cross-play in Dead Island 2?
Unfortunately, there's no cross-play in Dead Island 2, so you can't invite or matchmake with players on different platforms. That said, there's still cross-gen support, so if you're playing on PS5, you can invite or matchmake with a friend or stranger who's playing on PS4.
To allow other players to join your game, select Continue Game from the main menu and set your game type to Public or Invite Only. In Public mode, other players will be able to matchmake with you, whereas in Invite Only, only you can invite other players to join you.
That's everything you need to know about co-op in Dead Island 2.
